Job Description
The Head of Legal’s role is to lead and manage the Legal department to provide high standard legal and advice to Prudential Vietnam. They will provide technical guidance on legal matters to the staff of the department and manage the relationship between Legal and other departments of the Company, as well as the relationship with the Prudential Group and external stakeholders.
The role reports to the Prudential Vietnam Chief Risk Officer and also has a functional matrix reporting line to the General Counsel Asia and Africa (in the Group’s legal function).
1. Job Description
The main responsibilities of the position are:
- Lead and manage the Legal department to meet the requirements of the Company: prioritise the work of Legal department in consultation with the business, delegate tasks, monitor progress of tasks and take appropriate actions to keep them on track.
- Represent Legal department to the Company, for example in committees and on projects.
- Represent the Company externally on legal matters, including the engagement and instruction of external counsel.
- Provide clear advice and guidance on legal matters to the Company, taking full account of the business context. Including making recommendations when outcomes are uncertain.
- Act as company secretary to the Members Council, responsible for good governance and organizing the Members Council and Committee meetings.
- Manage Legal department staff performance and take corrective actions with them where necessary. Ensure sufficient training and development is provided, including any professional development requirement
- Build effective relationships with key stakeholders inside the Company including: the rest of the Compliance, Legal and Risk division; Company leadership; regular users of Legal department services (eg Product Development, Claims department, HR department); Member’s Council and its committees.
- Build effective relationships with key stakeholders outside the Company including; external legal service providers and any other relevant third parties; the Company’s Group office.
- Develop an understanding of the business of the Company (eg products, strategy, customer characteristics, key third parties) and its regulatory environment for more effective communication with stakeholders and to give more appropriate legal advice to the business.
- Manage litigation and recommend and take legal action to protect the Company’s rights and interests where appropriate.
2. Job requirements
Qualifications: at least a Bachelor’s degree in law
Working experience: 10+ year’s legal work experience includes: work in Vietnam or a multi-national company ; work in a law firm (ideally) and company legal department
Knowledge and skill:
- Leadership and management.
- Problem-solving, including assessing between different uncertain outcomes.

**Job Requirements**:
- Law qualification is required.
- Experience in partnering with senior management and members of the Board is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Previous experience of dealing with local authorities and regulators is a plus.
